Controversy

November 16, 2010

If you find yourself questioning whether or not IVF is ethically right, or struggling with how unnatural and clinical it is, I just want to say... thank you for keeping your mouth shut.

When something in your life isn't working out as planned, how do you know if  'God is closing a door' or if 'God wants you to fight for it.'

Okay, think of it this way: How many of us have a friend that was having difficulty meeting someone, and ended up using a dating website... only to find true love, marriage, and an incredible relationship that anyone would admire? Once married and established, do others condemn and judge the means by which they found love?

Or do you refuse chemotherapy just because 'it must be God's will for you to die from cancer?'

Sometimes we need to get a little help to get where we want in life. You can quit judging me now.

  3. I don't even know you and am so happy I've stumbled on your blog after following the link from Better After....but I just have to say that you're a real inspiration and good for you for posting about not wanting judgement from others! It's good preparation for all the judgements you'll face from others once you have children...always someone telling you what you did wrong! Be proud of yourself!

  4. If you haven't been there then, how can you have the right to even have an opinion?!?! Sometimes the "door God opens" comes at the hands of a doctor.

  5. Hi-

I just stumbled across your blog today. I'm glad I did.

I've been exactly where you were and are. That seems like a lifetime ago since we were blessed with boy and girl twins 5 years ago.

I struggled with the religious part about IVF. If you're interested, I researched and found that the Catholic Church has only one problem with the IVF process. It's the way the sperm is collected. That's it! Some very religious couples have even found a way around that, so they can stay completely within the Catholic guidelines. I won't get into how here, but there are ways, and your priest will give you his blessing for the entire IVF process.

I've never prayed harder in my life than I did begging to be blessed with a child. I cry just remembering it. And I WAS blessed! Only God gives life. And if God had decided not to bless us with a child through IVF, then IVF would not have worked. But it did work. And I thank God EVERY day it did.

    Congratulations on your blessings, too!

  8. I am absolutely loving reading through these old posts. My husband and I just had a transfer six days ago and are waiting for the blood test... 4 more days. You portray the physical and emotional distress of IVF so perfectly! The tummy bruises, the emotional ups and downs, the exhaustion, the overwhelming amounts of drugs... This is so raw and honest, and reading it is so refreshing... just to know others have gone through IVF, made it through, and had children to show for it! Thank you!

  10. Justfound your blog. No judgement. I think more and more people are going through this. I read an article where male fertility will be doomed in the future from all the chemicals humans are subjected to on the daily. It' setting worse and worse every year. I myself went through two cycles, and know of at least 4 other couples going through this. I just wish our government made it mandatory to be covered by insurance-- I dont get it , if you cause self harm they cover the procedures but this is a natural issue and they refuse in most states (copd/lung cancer from smoking, liver issues from drinking, recovery from eating disorders, ER care from stupid risks such as BASE jumping, etc etc-- all covered by insurance 😡). Anywhoo,, ignore the preachy assholes.
